Writing 4 fun & Beyond
The idea to write finally surfaced about 5 years ago reading a book to by eldest daughter Freya, at the time aged 9. I was reading a tedious story that was so boring and so badly written that like many people I said "I can do better". A few days later I actually started my book entitled "Marsha and the Mysterious Pet". Three months later of all the places I did a 2 hour writing workshop at centreparcs run by Crysse Morrison. The exercises were fun and inspiring, but the best part was discovering a book called the writers book of days. As well as useful tips and quotes from famous writers it contained a different writing idea for each day. A word, phrase or sentence. All you needed to do was grab a pen and a note book and write free from the mind for 5 minutes, 10 minutes sometimes an hour. Only rules being, don't stop, don't edit and don't plan. For 2 years I did this fairly regularly then I sought new sources of ideas, Matchsticks, the pocket book of muse and others, none quite as good as the Writers Book of Days. during this time my book progressed until the chapters trickled to a standstill. 16 chapters in 1 year, 7 in 4. finally last week I completed the story, 25,000 words finishing with THE END. Not really the end, editing , continuity and many other amendments required, but pyscologically complete. Now this only came about with another dose of creative writing medicine from Crysse Morrison on a course I attended on the Isle of Wight April 8-10 2011. Meetings so many varied and inspiring writers my enthusiasm was reignited, result, I finished my book and started using the writers book of days again. New inspiration this time was to have the confidence to share some of my musings over the last 5 years, plus new stuff and even possibly some of my book. A blog, no pressure to post every day just when the mood stikes, please feel free to comments, the good , the bad and the ugly, hope you enjoy it.
